Zombie Crusade by J.W. Vohs
I shelved the first book of this series on September 28, 2016 – so it has definetly been a long time but I remember enjoying this series for the basic fact that the main character was at the center of where zombies originated and then had time to plan and prepare for the eventual outbreak (and he wasn’t the evil mastermind). Imagine what you could accomplish with enough time and money to actually prepare? I love the medieval weapon use throughout. I feel it combined some of my favorite genres – alternate history and zombies.
Is the series flawed? Yes. One of the main complaints of a vast majority of readers was dialog between characters were kinda unnatural and just how “good” everything came together for the main character. Sometimes skimming will get you through a rough part (American Psycho is one of my all time favorite books – but you can only deal with so much detail, so I have no problem skimming and happily endorse it when it’s valid 🤣). Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

Book 1: Zombie Crusade
Former Ranger Jack Smith watched an Army bio-warfare experiment go horribly wrong in an Afghan village in 2001, escaping only after he turned to a makeshift mace and bayonet to destroy the skulls of the infected creatures that bullets to the chest could not stop. With the traumatic experience seared into his mind, he earned his Ph.D. in ancient history and began developing medieval weapons-making skills after he left the service. When the virus broke free from the Hindu-Kush Mountains a decade later and rapidly spread across the globe, Jack knew how to fight the monsters created by the infection: 21st century technology combined with deadly medieval tactics and weaponry. Jack and his former squad-mates lead a resistance against a zombie apocalypse in a crusade to ensure humanity’s survival.
Book 2: David’s Journey
Book 3: Evolution
